This course will provide the cognitive skills that are required to install solar hot water systems and is a requirement of the CanSIA Canadian Solar Hot Water System Installer Certification program.
This workshop provides a review of installation procedures, practises and requirements. Included in the workshop cost are two CanSIA manuals; STT 100 – Fundamentals, and STT 200 – Installation, Maintenance and Design. The manuals will be mailed to those who register and pay for this workshop before August 16, 2010.
The exam (optional) that follows the workshop is eligible for the Canadian Solar Hot Water System Installer Certification requirements. If you intend to take the exam, be sure to register for the exam.
You do not have to be an experienced installer or a licensed plumber to participate in this workshop. However you must obtain installation experience in order to become a CanSIA certified installer. Inexperienced installers who take this course may complete the experience requirements at a later time.

Special P.V. Design & Installation Course
A combination of knowledge and skills are required to design and install PV systems. This 5 day, 40 hour hands-on design & installation Course is based on NABCEP learning objectives and prepares participants to challenge the entry level exam. This Course covers system components, site analysis, PV modules, mounting systems, and safety as well as details on the fundamental requirements for implementing safe, efficient, and code-compliant PV systems. Participants will also learn the basics of sizing an off-grid, stand-alone and grid-tied system, wire sizing, over current protection, and grounding. Maintenance and service procedures including customer relationships, will round out this Course content.
- Participants should have some basic knowledge and experience in electricity, controls, equipment, etc.
- Course provided week-ends/week-days at CORE school location or anywhere in Canada, depending on demand.

5-Day Solar PV Design and Installation Workshop
Objective: This hands-on workshop is based on NABCEP learning objectives and prepares participants to challenge the entry level exam.
Target audience: Electricians, engineers, solar installers, building contractors, roofers and even home-owners.
Facilitators: The workshop will be facilitated by highly qualified professionals including NABCEP certified PV Installers and a Canadian professional. The lead facilitator has installed over 1,000 kW of PV and works for a company which designs and installs solar electric systems on residential and commercial buildings for our climate conditions. The lead facilitator is also a certified Master Trainer with the Institute for Sustainable Power Quality (ISPQ) , has a PhD in particle physics, has taught well over a hundred PV installer courses, is one of the very few people qualified to teach the advanced PV Installers workshops.
Pre-requisite: Knowledge of electricity, basic math skills. This workshop is a pre-requisite for our advanced Installers/Developers PV Workshop CEPPV2 (for large scale/commercial grid tied systems and Solar PV farms).
Skills: Participants will acquire the knowledge required for practitioners who specify, install and maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation systems and equipment, as defined per the NABCEP task analysis

Planning & Installing Solar PV Systems with Hands-on Training (5 days)
Based on NABCEP Learning Objectives. Customzied for compliance to Canadian Building and Electrical Code.
Description: This course will provide an overview of the three basic PV system applications, primarily focusing on grid-direct systems. The goal of the course is to create a fundamental understanding of the core concepts necessary to work with all PV systems, including: system components, site analysis, PV module criteria, mounting solutions, safety, and commissioning. The course will also cover the basics of sizing a residential grid-direct system, wire sizing, overcurrent protection, and grounding.
The student who pass a final exam are qualified for EFAN GREEN’s authorized installers and will be issued EFAN GREEN’s "Solar PV Certificate: Level One."
Cost: $1295 with possible group discount up to $100 off per person.
Prerequisites: Basic mathematics; Some computer knowledges; ability to safely lift 50 lbs.

Solar Electric Fundamentals and Grid-Direct Design (PV 101)
A five day intensive workshop, October 18-22 at Nipissing University Muskoka Campus, Bracebridge, Ontario. $1250 +HST ($1412.50) before Aug 15, $1350 +HST after. Register soon, space is limited! Lunch included.
SEI literally wrote the book on solar install and design (all workshop participants will get the book and other resources) and people travel from all over to take their trainings. Enrollment is on a first-come basis and class size is limited. The instructors are certified by North American Board of Certified Energy Practioners (NABCEP) and are also accredited by Interstate Renewable Energy Council. The course will include Ontario specific content including information about Ontario’s Feed in Tariff, local content, and code requirements. After successfully completing this course participants are eligible to sit for the NABCEP Entry Level Exam.

Students receive an introductory level hands-on experience through the opportunity to work on lab kits. Students will wire a grid-direct system, including the inverter, disconnects, racking, and grounding, using commercially available components and small modules.
