Solar PV
Overview of Solar Electricity Supply Chain in CanadaThe International Energy Agency (IEA) has released its Technology Roadmap for Solar PV. The Roadmap reports that in 2013 new systems globally were installed at a rate of 100 MW of capacity per day and that total global capacity overtook 150 GW in early 2014.
The IEA press release states: “the sun could be the world’s largest source of electricity by 2050, ahead of fossil fuels, wind, hydro and nuclear, according to a pair of reports issued by the International Energy Agency (IEA). The two IEA technology roadmaps show how solar photovoltaic (PV) systems could generate up to 16% of the world’s electricity by 2050 while solar thermal electricity (STE) from concentrating solar power (CSP) plants could provide an additional 11%.” Click here to download the Solar PV Roadmap |
By the end of 2015, Canada had more than 2,500 MW of cumulative installed solar electricity generation capacity. In 2015 alone, a record 700 MW was added earning Canada a place on the top-ten largest national markets globally.
