CanSIA Strategic Projects
CanSIA knows that many of its members want to play an active role in shaping the business environment for solar in Canada. To that end, CanSIA’s Strategic Projects are designed to align with and leverage the strategic objectives of our member companies. These projects are funded and driven by CanSIA members and help to secure a robust Canadian solar industry.
Members at the Corporate 1, Corporate 2, and Supporter 1 levels are eligible to become Influencers by supporting and participating in Strategic Projects. Influencers receive a number of exclusive benefits that are not available through traditional membership. |
"We had first access to pending market changes and business opportunities, access to the top solar businesses in Canada, access to decision-makers, and the first crack at shaping CanSIA's policy positions." - Suzanne Leta, Manager, Global Market Strategy, SunPower |
2019-2020 Strategic Projects
Thank you to all members who weighed in on the selection of this year’s strategic project’s through our Industry Priorities Survey. This next set of strategic projects will not only focus on federal and provincial policies but also build public support for solar on a national scale.
Nexus:
The Nexus Strategic Project is bringing together leading energy industry companies. Nexus is designed to be the industry’s most prominent initiative to develop a meaningful and robust energy storage sector across Canada, initially with a focus on Ontario and Alberta, by advocating for a legislative, policy and regulatory framework that removes customer obstacles to adopting energy management solutions and more easily allows private sector capital to accelerate customer adoption. Members at the C1, C2, and S1 levels are eligible to become “Influencers” by supporting and participating in Strategic Projects. To learn more about Nexus' targeted outcomes, click here.
Federal Initiative for Renewable and Storage Technologies (FIRST)
The aim of this strategic project, the Federal Initiative for Renewable and Storage Technologies (FIRST), is to proactively work with the Federal government officials and departments to advocate for policies and programs that will capture near-term and long-term market development opportunities for solar and energy storage technologies across Canada. To learn more about FIRST's targeted outcome, click here.
Alberta Solar Market Development (ASMD):
The aim of the Alberta Solar Market Development (ASMD) Strategic Project is to capture increasing near-term and long-term market opportunity for solar energy in Alberta’s electricity supply-mix and to support the development of the policy and regulatory framework that can enable project development. This project will build upon CanSIA’s past market development initiatives in the province of Alberta to work toward existing policy commitments, giving rise to near-term solar market opportunities and a path to a sustainable long-term role for solar in the provinces’ future electricity needs. Power For The People (P4TP):
Leveraging last year’s efforts, this initiative will focus on growth of market opportunities for solar energy through increased public demand. This initiative will educate the public on the benefits of solar energy and demonstrate how they can get involved with the solar programs in their region while highlighting the advantages of working with a CanSIA member on their project(s). Increased public awareness and demand will be channelled into multi-partisan support for solar energy – informing political leaders and decision makers of the importance of solar energy.
